Choose who must hold the title of the king!

PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO VISIT “THE KING OF MUSIC” POLLING SITE AND VOTE FOR ELVIS EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS YEAR 2015.  WE SIMPLY CANNOT LET ANYONE ELSE CLAIM ELVIS’ RIGHTFUL TITLE.  BELOW IS THE LINK TO THE SITE FOR VOTING:

http://thekingofmusic.com/

They have announced the King for the Month of June…..

The King of June – Elvis Presley With 21,965 Votes.

The King of July – Elvis Presley with 21,630 Votes.

I see that we have fallen short of the total votes for Elvis in the month of June compared to our total votes in the month of May.  Let’s all make a reminder for ourselves which we will see every day.  This is important.

A good friend to our site, Linda F C, discovered this week that there is a poll receiving votes for the Song of Ages.  A link to this second poll is shown at the very top of the site on which we are all voting every day for the KingofMusic.  Below is the link to theSongofAges voting location.

Elvis has the number 1 song presently as well as number 3Suspicious Minds is number 1; Love Me Tender is number 3.

Let’s add this to our daily to-do list in addition to voting for the King of Music.  We can keep an Elvis song in first place here as well.  As you will see below Suspicious Minds is far ahead in the lead now; and was also the number one song for the month of June.

http://songofages.com/

Choose the song of ages!

The Song of June  – Suspicious Minds – Elvis Presley With 5,079 Votes.

The best song election is a very complicated issue. Because of this, election will be separated into at least two phases. In the first phase we will determine the list of songs. In the second phase election will start all over again, no more than 70 the most popular songs will be in the final voting list. You should suggest your favorite song here.

  • Suspicious Minds – Elvis Presley (56%, 20,014 Votes)

  • Billie Jean – Michael Jackson (22%, 7,930 Votes)
  • Love Me Tender – Elvis Presley (13%, 4,716 Votes)

The Song of July  – Suspicious Minds – Elvis Presley with 4,822 Votes. The Second was Love Me Tender – Elvis Presley with 2,574 Votes.

MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 2015

I want to apologize for my ongoing absence.  I am still feeling way below par.  I am not seriously ill…at least I don’t think I am.  I was having some symptoms which my Dr. wanted to try to track down by the process of eliminating some of my medications to see if they were causing the symptoms.  The second one which we discontinued threw me into a bad tailspin of lethargy and fatigue.  I have little energy and just kind of drag through my days right now.  This too shall pass.  I appreciate everyone being patient and understanding until I get back to my normal level of activity here on the site.

We still do not have out computer back in service.  The first repair shop just was not equipped to test to determine exactly which parts were affected by the lightning strike.  It is now in the hands of the computer expert from whom we bought the computer a year ago.  If it can be fixed, this young man will definitely fix it.  Perhaps he will have a prognosis for us before this week is out.

I feel badly not being really active during this new month leading up to August 16th.

But, I will hopefully be more active on here very soon.

Area man talks about working with Elvis Presley

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

(Photo)

Ron Strauss

Ron “Terry” Strauss is originally from Fonda. He piloted Elvis Presley’s Convair 880 jet, the “Lisa Marie” from November 1975 until Presley’s untimely passing. Strauss describes working with the Presley family as situation of “Anything you want, no questions asked.” Strauss traveled from his home in Florida to visit the Fonda Arts Center recently to share his stories with the community. He spoke of how Elvis always flew late nights, never during the day. Going on a flight to Denver for gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Lisa Marie Presley’s birthday is a vivid memory for Strauss. Elvis would often come to the cockpit of the jet, but never wanted to try flying it himself, at least according to Strauss. Elvis also seemed nervous about flying from Strauss’s perspective. Vernon and Elvis would give the crew and pilots anything they needed to keep the aircraft in the best possible condition, Vernon Presley was often concerned about his son’s safety. The Lisa Marie’s crew were on call 24/7 by the Presley family, and would often get calls at 2 a.m. to take the plane on late night trips. Elvis would even have to disguise himself to get from Graceland to the airport, sometimes as a police officer, other occasions as a motorcycle rider. Some rather interesting moments from Strauss’s recollection of flying with the Presley family include how Elvis rarely drank alcohol on the aircraft, Elvis’s dates that he would bring on the plane, and how the “King” once carried around loaded revolvers on the aircraft.

Strauss still has a collection of gifts from Elvis. A yellow Corvette Stingray, a solid gold TCB (Taking Care of Business) necklace that was given to all of the crew members, (one has been sold for 18,000 dollars.) Strauss expressed he wishes he could have done things different if he had known Presley were to pass so unexpectedly. He never introduced his children to him or had any pictures taken.

Elvis Presley ‘Auction At Graceland’ Now Accepting Online Bids

Auction At Graceland Elvis Presley
The third installment of the Auction At Graceland is now open to the public, with bids being accepted online for 174 rare Elvis Presley items up for auction bythird party individuals. Out of the three officially sanctioned Elvis Presley Enterprises auctions held at The King’s former home, this incarnation is by far the largest. The live auction will take place on Thursday, August 13, at the Graceland Archives Studio, but you can submit online bids now at GracelandAuctions.com.The Graceland Archives Studio officially opened to the general public in August of 2014 as part of Elvis Week 2014. Elvis Week is a yearly celebration of the life of Elvis Presley, and it is always held the week of August 16 to coincide with the anniversary of Presley’s 1977 death. The first Auction At Graceland was held during Elvis Week 2014, and the second edition of the event was held during January of this year during Graceland’s celebration of what would have been Presley’s 80th birthday. Elvis Presley Enterprises is hoping that the Auction At Graceland will become a signature event for these two gigantic yearly celebrations where thousands flock to Memphis, Tennessee. All of the private items up for sale to the general public during the Auction At Graceland have been authenticated by the staff at Graceland Authenticated. None of the items for sale come from Graceland’s personal Presley archives, though representatives from Graceland do participate in the auction and bid on items that they may want for their collection. The signature item up for sale during this year’s auction is a jumpsuit worn by Elvis during 1973 and 1974, nicknamed the “starburst jumpsuit.” According to ElvisConcerts.com, the “blue starburst” jumpsuit was worn by Presley during his August and September, 1973 engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton, as well as during a March, 1974, tour in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Tennessee. It’s estimated that the jumpsuit will auction for between $100,000 and $150,000.The auction catalog has an interesting description of the Presley jumpsuit up for auction, indicating that it was once dismantled and has now been pieced back together.

“Sometimes tragedy becomes serendipity, as is the case with this Elvis Presley stage-worn jumpsuit from his 1973 Las Vegas Hilton shows and concert tours. With its parts damaged, disassembled and then reunited after decades, it has emerged as a complete and original stage worn artifact from the peak of Elvis’ 1970’s performing career.”

Other items of note that will be auction during Elvis Week’s Auction At Graceland include:

  • Elvis Presley “Viva Las Vegas” Jacket worn in dance scene with Ann-Margret (Estimated $30,000-50,000)
  • Million Dollar Quartet Signed Guitar with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis signatures (Estimated $20,000-30,000)

This year marks what would have been the 80th birthday of Elvis Presley. “Elvis Week” is an annual celebration of the life and career of Presley that is held the week of August 16 to coincide with the anniversary of his death on that date in 1977. As part of “Elvis Week 2015” in Memphis, Tennessee, the Graceland Archives studio holds an “Auction At Graceland,” a signature event in August and during the birthday celebration each January 8th.

During the auction, private Elvis Presley related items, each authenticated by the staff at “Graceland Authenticated” are offered to the general public. One of the most anticipated items for sale this month is Presley’s “Starburst Jumpsuit,” worn during some 1973 and 1974 performances on stage. The estimated amount of the winning bid is between $100,000 and $150,000.

This sounds like it is a really good book…so happy she decided to write it.

Elvis Presley’s private nurse writes a memoir of her time working for the ‘extremely generous’ superstar

  • Letetia Henley Kirk lived on the grounds of Graceland from 1972
  • ‘He was not only my patient but a good friend,’ said the 73-year-old Kirk
  • She met him in 1968 when he went to her clinic for saddle sores

A West Tennessee woman who was Elvis Presley’s private nurse is releasing a book giving an insight into her life around the music legend and his family.

Letetia Henley Kirk lived on the grounds of Graceland – Presley’s longtime Memphis home – with her husband and two young daughters from 1972 to 1983 and often traveled with Presley on tour, The Jackson Sun reported.

Her self-published book, titled ‘Taking Care of Elvis – Memories with Elvis as His Private Nurse and Friend’, is a collection of short stories. It also includes dozens of previously unpublished photos.

‘He was not only my patient but a good friend,’ said the 73-year-old Kirk, who planned to release the book Monday.

For nearly 40 years, she kept silent about her years with Presley.

But Kirk said she changed her mind after a friend convinced her to attend an event during Elvis Week last August in Memphis.

She talked to many of the fans who descend on Graceland each year to commemorate the death of Presley on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42.

‘I realized how hungry the fans are for stories about what life was like during a normal day at Graceland,’ Kirk said.

‘They already know the stories about drugs and sex and life on the road.

‘They want to know what Elvis was like at Graceland during his private time. That’s what this book is, light-hearted stories of my memories and experiences with Elvis.’

Kirk was hired at The Medical Group in Memphis where she worked for 40 years.

She met Presley in 1968 when he went to the clinic for treatment of saddle sores from riding horses.

‘We treated him after hours, and he saw Dr Nick,’ Kirk said, referring to Dr George Nichopoulos.

‘I was in the room assessing Elvis, and he was sitting in the corner talking to me with his head down.

‘I walked over, lifted his chin and said, ‘Elvis, if you talk to me, you look at me.”

She thought she was in trouble when Nichopoulos called her to his office and, with a solemn look on his face, asked what she said to Presley.

When she told the doctor, he grinned and said Presley liked her country ways.

She became Presley’s regular nurse when he went to the clinic, and that led to her move to Graceland in 1972.

Kirk says the book is lighthearted stories of her time with Elvis. She moved to Graceland, pictured, in 1972 after becoming his regular nurse

Kirk recalled working at the clinic on August 16, 1977, on the Elvis died and said she got a call from her husband who told her to ‘get home quick’.

She jumped in her car and soon saw the ambulance as it raced Presley to the hospital.

She drove through the front gate of Graceland and learned what happened.

‘I was in total disbelief,’ Kirk said. ‘I never dreamed something like that would happen. I still get emotional about it, and the book was very hard to write because of that emotional journey.’

But Kirk said the light-hearted stories in the book kept her spirit lifted, such as the ones about gifts she received from Presley, including how she turned down a black Cadillac.

‘Elvis was extremely generous and just loved to make people happy,’ she said. ‘I was a very blessed country girl.’

The Elvis Forever stamp presentation ceremony was beautifully done and was very moving.  I enjoyed it so very much.  It was wonderful to see so many speakers paying tribute to the man we all love so much.  The stamp itself is beautiful and one that we can all take great pride in owning and using.

The following is an article which I have been thinking about posting for the last week or so.  It is focused on an article which ran in the GLOBE Tabloid on August 10th.  As a rule, I do not give any credence to anything in the tabloids unless I KNOW that what they have published is true BEFORE I ever see it in a rag mag.  In this case, I do know absolutely that they have based their article about Elvis’ health and their interview with Dr. Nick upon a true fact.

This article does describe the health issue with which Elvis had been dealing for a long time.  He was very worried about this condition because the Drs. had told him if he did not have the surgery, he would die.  He knew that if he had the surgery, it would not “fit the image of Elvis Presley” and that he would have to take a good long time off from his work…would perhaps not be able to return to his performances at all due to the aftermath of the surgery and an implanted device which he would have to learn to live with.

Wanda June Hill has told me in detail how sick Elvis was and how he agonized over whether to have the surgery; whether to just continue to deal with all the problems it was causing him in order that he could continue performing and take his chances; whether to have the surgery because the Drs. had told him that he would die without it, but they had also told him that it would be a very serious surgery and that there was no guarantee of it being completely successful; the worst part is that they had told him that he could die during the procedure.  He was speaking with another good friend in addition to Wanda June Hill and he shared the questions and worries which he had about the illness with that other close friend also.

It appears that those who worked for him, and with him, were not informed of his very private illness. They did not know that Elvis was taking them into account in all of his decisions because he knew he had so many people and their families relying on him for their livelihoods….wives and children of the guys who worked for him as well.  I have shared here on my site, earlier, some of the details regarding Elvis’ ill health and why he had to leave to have the surgery to literally save his life.  Jesse told me that he was glad that I did explain about his situation.  So, I don’t believe he will mind that I add this article.  I share these things in order that the fans will come to understand and feel total compassion for what he was going through and why he had to do what he did.  It was a choice between life and death quite simply.

The last two years of my life were pure misery.”  Jesse Presley as spoken to me.  Jesse did confirm to me that he did have the necessary surgery.

Globe front cover

Below are copies of a few key points in their article.  Their full article makes me uncomfortable because of the angle of their attitude toward Dr. Nick.  Those points will not be shown below…only the excerpts containing the truth.

Globe article excerpt1

Globe article excerpt 2

Globe article excerpt 3

Globe article excerpt 4

The following is my final excerpt from this article.  This is the section to which I most want to call everyone’s attention. What Dr. Nick says is the truth as  was witnessed by Elvis’ very close friends and confidantes…with the main BIG exception being that Elvis did not die, but left so he could have the life saving surgery.  I am so thankful for the 38 years which he has had and extremely thankful for the past 23 years during which he has allowed me to know the truth directly from him.

Globe article excerpt 6

Below is a copy of one page of Jesse’s introduction to his book.  Here you will see his own statement about the reasons for his decision to let the image of Elvis Presley die and to reinvent himself as his twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley.  You may view the introduction in it’s entirety on the following page of my web site.

A good friend, Ron Collamore, sent me the following substantiating information in support of the article which I posted yesterday about how ill Elvis was in 1977.  I thank Ron so much for locating these two excerpts from books.

Ron wrote to me:

In this book - ELVIS: THE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE by Richard Peters, he writes, " May 29, 1977. Looking tired, his voice weak, Elvis walks off stage in mid-performance in front of 13,000 people in the Baltimore Civic Centre. However, after a thirty minutes break, he reappears to rapturous applause and completes his show with five more songs. It is, nevertheless, an ominous occurrence......"

From this book - ELVIS: THE FINAL YEARS by Jerry Hopkins, he writes, "John Wilkinson: "He asked J.D. and the guys to sing a couple of numbers and Charles Hodge emceed while he was gone. I got the impression he had to go to the bathroom. When he came back, he thanked everybody and apologized. He said, 'But when you gotta go, you gotta go.' and then, under his breath, I could hear him over the microphone. He said, "Sometimes it hurts me so fuckin' bad...." (Linda! I'm sorry for using a swear word, but it's in the book. Please forgive me.) Back to John's story, 'It was like his insides were just being torn up. I also saw him wince as he walked a couple of times, as if it was hard for him to move. Hence no more stage movements. It was tragic to see."

It's related to May 29, 1977 concert. It's on page 222.

Hopefully it does help you and you have my permission to use them for your website. Ron

IN MEMORY OF A VERY SPECIAL LADY

I lost a dear friend earlier this week.  Susan Nolf was a longtime friend to me and has been active with my web site since very soon after I opened it in May, 2009.  I received word of her unexpected death several days ago.  I shall miss her greatly.  She was a very sweet friend to me and Jesse.

I looked back and found an earlier Email from Susan with some really nice photos of Elvis which she shared with me.  She contributed to my web site and was very active on our blog page and in the Messages to Jesse page.  I wish to share the following brief Email from her to me along with the photos which she shared with me.

Susan will always be in our hearts.

She wrote:

Hello Linda Dear ,

These are candid shots of Elvis taken June 1, 1977 – just weeks before he “died”.  He couldn’t have gained enough weight in just 3 weeks to look like he looked on stage at his last concert in Indianapolis on, I think, June 26th.  This is crazy.  He must have been padded and made up for that last concert… Hey girl you just look at this.   No need to reply , Love Susan …

I apologize for this absence and thank everyone for your continued patience.

Just want to let my visitors know that I do have my computer back.  However, the restore process is going much more slowly than I would like.  So, I still won’t be posting very much until I get the restore completely untangled.  But, I do want to share that Jesse called me this past Saturday afternoon.  He was calling to see if I am feeling better.  I told him that I don’t want him to worry about me cause I am “tough” and that I am feeling better but the Dr. is still changing my medication to see if it will help with my lack of balance problems.  His call was the best medicine for me, as always.

I will be around and will be active on the site when time allows.  Thank you all again for your patience.

My good friend, Richard C., shared the following photos with me which are very good comparisons to Jesse’s photo.  I thank Richard from the bottom of my heart for sharing these photos of Elvis with me.  I have been so far behind that I haven’t read his kind messages on Facebook until now.  I thank Richard for his patience.

The first three photos are those which Richard shared with me.

Our good friend, Linda FC, found the following good news article.  As always, we are so very proud of our Elvis!!

“Return to Sender”?

Not this album: U.S. Postal Service customers snapped up enough copies of the service’s exclusive new “Elvis Presley Forever” compilation, released last week in conjunction with the new Elvis Presley Forever postage stamp, to put it at No. 11 in its first week on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart.

The 18-track CD, which sold 27,000 copies last week, spans Presley’s career from his 1954 Sun Records recording “That’s All Right Mama,” through his early-1970s hits “Burning Love” and “The Wonder of You,” and includes previously unissued versions of “If I Can Dream” and “What Now My Love.”

It also includes such Presley signature hits as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Return to Sender,” “Viva Las Vegas” and “Suspicious Minds.”

It’s the highest debut for a Presley album in a dozen years, since his “2nd to None” album debuted at No. 3 in 2003. “Elvis Presley Forever” is being sold at Postal Service locations and online for $9.99.

Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, was joined by Postmaster General Megan Brennan to introduce the stamp, and the album, during this year’s Elvis Week activities at his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tenn., surrounding commemoration of the 38th anniversary of his death on Aug. 16, 1977 at age 42.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 2015

Don’t know why but I woke up today with the lyrics to this song playing in my mind.  Back in 1988, I first began my search to understand what Elvis actually did and why.  More importantly, to prove to myself if I had been right since August 17, 1977 that Elvis did not really die…this was the first new song that I obtained and I loved it.  The lyrics, to me, were just the way Elvis would say things.

I know I have shared this song before, but I just feel like sharing it again.  I may have written before that Tom and I traveled to Birmingham, Alabama in 1988 to visit the studio where this song was recorded.  We met the owner of the studio, Mr. Wallis, who gave us a tour of where, in his words, “maybe Elvis recorded“.   After I finally succeeded in getting it played on a Charlotte radio station, Mr. Wallis did tell me that it was Jimmy Ellis.  But, I still feel that Elvis himself was somehow connected to this song.  The lyrics are just too close to the real story and I still wonder if there may be two voices on the record.  As I have explained before, Jesse did confirm to me that I am right about some of the Orion songs really being him.  Anyway, enjoy this song from my “stroll down memory lane”
